Default Eye twitching during / after divorce

Last year I went through a divorce after 17 years of marriage. It took me by surprise as I never saw it coming and the stress of the divorce plus the behavior of my ex (a side I never knew) caused great stress, anxiety and depression. It started as a slight twitch of the left eye and progressed into spasms of the whole left side of my face. We've been apart for about a half year now and only correspond in regards to our kids, mainly email and text, very little over the phone and zero face to face. I feel like I have gotten past most of the anxiety and stress and pretty much all of the depression. I have been walking 2 miles at least four times a week, taking saunas about the same amount and eating well (though I do enjoy a beer from time to time). I still have sometimes weeks, sometimes days and sometimes hours at a time, bouts of eye spasms. Sometimes just the eye, sometimes the eye and cheek and sometimes eye, cheek and lip. All of the left side. I asked my therapist about it and he said I may want to talk to a pyschiatrist but that department referred to nuerology. Before I spend a bunch of my deductible and co-pays on getting shuffled through the health care system, I was hoping I could get some feedback from others as to how they dealt with it and if it abates or you are stuck with it for life.

I used to experience twitching in my right eye occasionally when I was younger. It never progressed into something as serious as you described. My twitching was due to a vitamin deficiency. I started taking a multivitamin every single day and haven't had a problem since.

It seems very coincidental that your problems started when you were experiencing a great deal of stress and anxiety in your life. If I were you, I would get a professional opinion from your family doctor. Explain to your doctor what has been going on in your life and what has been happening with your eye. I would think he would be able to point you in a more appropriate direction than your therapist could.

Relax, do not just give yourself so much pressure, I hope you get better soon.
