How often do you go to an ophthalmologist to have your eye checked?
I think one should go to doctor for routine checkup after 3-4 months and whenever a need occurs
I was told by my medical doctor and eye doctor that I should get checked once a year and here I am now with Diabetic Retinopathy in my right eye. If I had gone every 3-6 months, it would have been detected earlier and I would still have 20/25 vision in said eye.
So don't wait too long, whether you're diabetic or not, because anything can go wrong in the blink of an eye.
thanks for the advice
In the UK, if you are young and dont have any eye/health concerns then yearly exams are usually recommended but if you suffer from diseases such as glaucoma then more frequent checks may be advised. This will help ensure that unoticable damage is not occuring.
For information about opticians in the UK and when you should have an eye test, as well as what a prescription means and who is entitled to NHS benefits
I used to only go once a year, but since turning 40 I go every six months.
Your eyes change more rapidly after 40 and you are more prone to eye conditions associated with aging.
I think this was a great discussion.
It is encouraged in the UK that people with eye or vision problems should have an eye test every two years. There are a variety of reasons behind this, one of which is that it could save you a lot of troubles in later years if you do get regular eye tests.
Primarily, eye tests serve as a check-up to make sure that your vision correction prescription – your glasses and/or contact lenses – is up to date. Without right prescription, not only can your sight suffer but the condition of your eyes can deteriorate overall. It means that bigger problems may be arisen in the future which should be rectified in advance simply by taking an eye test.

im 24 and go to check once a year, but when i don;t feel well for my eyes i will go at once
There is a difference between an ophthalmologist & an optometrist For routine checks perscription glasses etc you would go to an optometrist where the ophthalmologist would see you if there was some underlying disease process going on! It is usually done through your optometrist or GP because they have found something that concerns them like sudden vision loss or you have been diagnosed with diabetes & you will need to be monitored for diabetic retinopathy!
