simplex keratitis
Where to begin. I got a bad case of cold sores a decade ago. and my eye was itching. So I went to the eye doctor and she said it wasn't simplex it was Blepharitis. My right eye is itching again and I'm worried. No blurred vision, ulcers or anything like that just irritation. Mind you the eye could have itched during the last ten years. And I've had at least one eye exam since then. I can't remember if I mentioned my simplex fear. .But he didn't notice or say anything. Well anyway ten years ago I was a bit of a hypocondriac and due to certain craziness in my life I'm obsessing again.
I guess my question is if it was simplex for ten years would I notice it?
One interesting thing about the redness is it's only the arteries between the tear duct and cornea and can dissipate and comeback. I'll look at it one hour and its there and a few hours later its almost gone.

Cold sores are due to Herpes simplex virus which can also affect eyes, and causes sores and severe pain around the eyes. You complain of itching and mild redness at the canthus, which may be only blepharitis as your doctor rightly said.
