    Default Eye size and contacts

I went to get contacts. I was told that the size of my eye is an issue with getting contacts that will give me 20/20 vision. I am nearsighted and since I turned 40 have been getting farsighted. I was given a pair of contacts and while I can see better far away, it is not perfect. My vision up close is now worse with these contacts. The eye doctor told me that with the size of my eye I would never be able to see perfectly far away with the types of multi focal contact lenses that are available now. I don't understand this. If I can't see perfectly far away shouldn't I at least be able to see perfectly up close with these lenses not worse than what my eyesight already was?? I was told the only way I would see perfectly is if I just wear glasses. Does this sound correct or should I get another eye doctor?

I would get a second opinion.
