Default Is my prescription too high for my lenses?

    http://www.glassespoint.com.au/faqs.php

    Lens Type:

    High Index Lens Recommendation
1.57 Mid Index Recommended for prescriptions SPH (0.00 to -4.00 D)
1.61 High Index Recommended for prescriptions SPH (-3.00 to -6.00 D)
1.67 High Index Recommended for prescriptions SPH (-4.00 to -8.00 D)
1.74 High Index Recommended for prescriptions SPH (over -6.00 D)

According to that faq i should be wearing 1.57-1.61 index lens(the lens on my last glasses were polycarbonate lens with an index of 1.59 if that matters).

I ordered a pair of glasses online with 1.50 standard index lens with a prescription of -3.25 SPH in both eyes. I have heard that lens index is mostly for aesthetics, but is my prescription generally too high for standard index lens?

edit- asking this question cause my left eye has been hurting whenever i wear these new glasses so trying to find the cause.
