What is industry standard for lense return policy? What to do about Presbyopia
3.5 months ago I had an eye appt., she said my prescription changed (the distance improved a little bit, while the other part got a little worse I think) so I got new lenses.
2 weeks ago I started getting headaches and nausea, mostly when using the computer or reading. Went back to same eye doc, she said I needed reading glasses, said I'm too young for bifocals (I'm 33), and did not even mention Progressives - I was not aware of them until I researched online - I never had a reason to be aware of them or need for them.
So I get my new reading glasses last Thursday, been using them non-stop for 5 days, and they did not fix the problem. Still headaches and nausea, and experiencing glare and/or slight out of focus on computer and when reading books.
The doc's office is in an eye glass store (they try to say they are separate entities). The eye glass store is trying to tell me "well, your prescription changed in 4 months" and won't take back the lenses (or exchange for progressives) from 3.5 months ago. And they are telling me even if I get progressives I'll still want the reading glasses for long periods of reading. I've talked to a couple people with progressives who say they don't need separate reading glasses. And the kicker, they want to charge me $500 for progressive lenses.
I talked with another Optometrist, and he said he helps patients on a case-by-case basis, but normally the lab will take back any lenses and put them toward new lenses. He wants his patients happy and to be sure they see properly. Hence, he's basically saying if it were him, he would have taken back the lenses in exchange for progressives from 3.5 months ago (and probably let me trade in the reading glasses too). He didn't specify a time period of exchange though.
What is industry standard for lense return/exchange policy (if they are not working)?
I've never had a problem with eyeglasses like this before. I'm already out about $230 from the lenses from 3.5 months ago which are basically no longer good since I need to replace those with progressives, and $130 for the reading glass lenses that aren't working, and now they want another $500. I think I should be able exchange both, at least taking the $500 down to $140....but I don't even know if I should deal with them anymore, even if I get a 2nd opinion on my current prescriptions (however if I go somewhere else, I'm left with $360 worth of lenses that I can't use). I think I'm being taken for a ride and/or I don't think the optometrist gave me the right prescription 3.5 months ago or now.
Prebystopia doesn't develop over 3.5 months - if I have it now, I had it 3.5 months ago and was improperly diagnosed ... I think. Welcome opinions on what my next step should be. Should I see another Optemetrist for a 2nd opinion? Should I see an Opthamologist? (I don't think I have an eye disease though as when I'm not reading the computer or books, the headaches and nausea seem to subside some; but I've been feeling really fatigue now for a few days I think due to constaint eye strain)
Just really confused on what to do, stressed out, hence up at 3am, and welcome any advice....
